Veterinary Technician

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 1+ year(s) experience as a veterinary technician and/or a CVT required

  • Surgical technician experience preferred

  • Current CVT Licensure preferred

  • Fear Free Certification preferred

  • Oncura Radiology Certification preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
(Including, but not limited to)

  • Appointment veterinary technicians must be proficient in a variety of veterinary technician skills ranging from but not limited to obtaining patient history from clients and records, rounding veterinarians, assessing canine and feline mentation and vitals, phlebotomy, intravenous catheterization, obtaining laboratory samples, performing laboratory diagnostics, pharmacology, radiology, basic anesthetic monitoring, radiology, general nursing skills and oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous medication administration

    • Procedure veterinary technicians must also be proficient in gas anesthetic monitoring (AAHA standards), intubation, anesthetic recovery, sterile surgical prep, dental prophylaxis and dental radiology

  • Proficient in client education surrounding common pet wellness topics such as but not limited to vaccine schedules, reactions, importance of diagnostics, flea/tick/HW preventatives, etc.

  • Professional, polite, and grammatically correct written communication skills

  • Computer and digital systems proficiency, including but not limited to electronic medical records, digital tools, modern diagnostic equipment

  • Efficient, thorough and accurate medical record keeping and transcription skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of the human-animal bond.

  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Efficient and positive team-player

  • Knowledge of proper canine and feline husbandry.

  • Knowledge of canine and feline behavior, understanding body language to quickly recognize signs of fear or aggression and react appropriately.

  • Ability to respond appropriately to canine and feline behavior to safely provide care in accordance with AAHA and Fear Free standards.

  • Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of proper facility and equipment sanitizing and disinfecting techniques, sterile techniques, and zoonotic disease prevention.

Training consists of being paired with 1 or 2 senior technicians for 4 weeks to get accustomed to the protocols at BLVD Vet and ensure you have the skills you need to succeed. This is not a "sink or swim” culture - we want to set you up for success with individualized training and attention. Efficiency and hard work are expected but you will be supported by modern, cloud-based practice management software, and an engaged management team.
What makes us different is we believe in allowing veterinary technicians to utilize all of their skills from running standard wellness exams, sick visits, to their skills in the surgical and dental suites each week, so they remain fresh in all of the valuable abilities they’ve honed over the years.
