BLVD Vet is seeking to support the next generation of veterinarians at our truly independent group of AAHA Accredited small animal practices in Chicago! Our externship rotations are typically two weeks in length, and are designed to allow students, under supervision, to practice the problem-solving, technical and communication skills that they have acquired during their coursework and clinical education. Externs are given the opportunity to work alongside our veterinary team and are encouraged to participate in the many wonderful and challenging aspects of patient care.

Externs can expect to witness a typical caseload of a small animal practice; there will be a well balanced split of wellness and sick visits as well as days on procedures (primarily dental and soft tissue.) Under the supervision of a senior BLVD veterinarian they will gather histories, practice accurate recording in medical notes, perform physical examinations, develop diagnostic and treatment plans, scrub into surgery, develop their professional voice for clients, refine technical skills, and establish rapport with the support staff.

We are looking for students from an accredited DVM program who are enthusiastic and ready to learn while upholding ethical and professional standards of BLVD veterinary. We expect all students to adhere to safety protocols as outlined by the AVMA, OSHA and the CDC in order to protect themselves, those around them, and our patients. You must also have SAVMA PLIT.

We know it can be a challenge to jet set around the country seeking various educational opportunities, so we want to make it easier for you to come visit us! We offer competitive stipends for 1st-4th year students, as well as lodging reimbursements to 3rd and 4th year students.
