Heartworm Treatment
with Dr. Erin Newman
Heartworm disease is life-threatening and takes several months to treat. Sadly, this completely preventable disease is becoming more prevalent in the United States each year. Our tailored heartworm treatment plans are guided by the American Heartworm Society. They involve a series of injections with close monitoring to ensure there are no adverse reactions as the worms in the heart and vessels are being killed. Because treatment is grueling and the disease is life-threatening, we strongly advocate for year-round heartworm prevention. Luckily, at BLVD there are several options available to you, depending on your preference. You can opt for an oral preventative at home monthly or, in dogs over 6-months old, the preventative can be administered as an injection with your dog's annual vaccines.
